Fifty years on the water, and still learning.

I started Beyond The Buoy to share all I do as a captain — and some great photos I’ve been able to take along the way. I’ve been in the marine industry for 50 years and want to share that knowledge with other boaters. And if you’re young and thinking about a career on the water: this site is for you, too.

Where to start

Modern helm with wheel and Raymarine displays

From washing boats to running them

Fifty years in the trade — deck hose to delivery captain, and every wire, thruster and engine swap in between.

Fiery red-orange sunset sky over dark water

Sunrises, sunsets & places in between

Photos I want to share from deliveries and passages — fog, moonlight, and skies that stop you mid-watch.

Raymarine chartplotter installed in a wood-trimmed helm

Gear I’ve installed & trust

Plainspoken reviews of marine parts and electronics, starting with the Raymarine Axiom 2 chartplotter.

“I love the water and really find it a sanctuary — there is nothing more peaceful.”

My main goal for this site is to encourage more young people to get into this business. We need that. If one kid reads these pages and decides to pick up a wrench at a marina, it was worth building.

Need a captain — or the right part?

I run deliveries, charters and yacht management through Blue Seas Yacht & Captain Service, and stock gear I actually use at the Blue Seas Marine Store. Questions? Just ask.
